What’s with all the lying?

God calls His people to walk in truth. Yet many caregivers and ministry leaders regularly face dishonest behavior among the children they serve.

This training looks at lying in children through both Scripture and brain development, helping us understand why some children struggle with truth-telling, especially those impacted by complex developmental trauma.

We will explore:
• How lying typically develops in children
• How trauma can shape patterns of dishonesty
• Confabulation and distorted thinking
• Practical ways to respond that guide children toward truth and responsibility

When we understand both the heart and the developmental factors at play, we are better equipped to shepherd children wisely.

Join guest speaker, Shaleigh Schneider, Director of Therapeutic Services for A Door of Hope, a Christian foster care agency based in Florida.

As a mom of six children – four adopted from the foster care system – she thought being a teacher would be the best career choice for her, so she would have the same schedule as her children. The Lord had other plans, and she began a career in child welfare. Shaleigh previously worked for an organization that walks alongside parents of children impacted by the child welfare system. During her time there, she became a TBRI Practitioner and a Making Sense of Your Worth Facilitator. She is also trained in Trauma Competent Caregiver, Family Systems Trauma (FST) Advanced Training, and Motivational Interviewing. Shaleigh has a heart for providing trauma-responsive education to parents and professionals alike.

Shaleigh has been married to her husband, Brent, since 2005, and they are raising six children. The Lord called them to foster over a decade ago, and the rest is history! Shaleigh has a passion for serving her local community and walking alongside people in the good seasons of life and in the hard.
